WORKSHOP

Where magic begins...

Puppets are made of many things and many materials. In this room you'll find snaps of various puppets in different stages of creation.

We've got 'happy feet' too - these ones ended up on Little Red Riding Hood!

I was amazed to read recently that one person thought that marionettes were "creepy" as most people seem to express the oposite - a sort of fascination that seems more like magic or amusing.

Renaldo renaldo

"The Big Bad Wolf" in various stages of construction.

Certainly marionette shows are often used for comedy- but any suggestion that they are limited to comedy only can only come from a person who has never seen "the master" Canadian, Ronnie Burkett's shows.

Ronnie's shows plumb the depths of human emotions and express them with ease- so easily in fact, you can only wonder why it is that such "theatrical experiences" are extremely rare and hard to find these days- exponents of this particular art are few and far between.

Before the makeup and paint- Miss Margo Malloy's head sitting on the bench waiting for her turn.

Frankenfurter, one of the first puppets we made is now one of our "cupboard puppets" . Cupboard puppets have a special place in our hearts as they may or may not be used in future shows due to early construction techniques.

More to come soon.
